Acne Medication Triggers

Certain prescription medications can trigger acne outbreaks. If you are taking any of these medications and are suffering from acne, you should talk with you doctor to see if there are any other treatment options with fewer side affects.

Medications That Can Trigger Acne

Anticonvulsants: Prescribed to treat epilepsy and seizures. Acne is a common side effect for these drugs.

Contraceptive agents: Certian older contraceptives are known to cause acne.

Corticosteroids: Prescribed to treat asthma and other lung diseases. These medications can stimulate sebum and oil production and lead to blemishes.

Disulfuram: Prescribed to enforce sobriety in alcholics. Causes unpleasant side effects when mixed with alcohol to discourage alcohol consumption. Regular use of the drug has been known to cause acne in some patients.

INH: Prescribed to treat tuberculosis.

Lithium: Prescribed to treat certian types of depression.
