Exercising and Acne

Some people have the misconception that exercise is bad for your skin and causes acne. This just isn't true, in face moderate exercise is very good for you skin, and it helps you maintain a healthly body and can reduce your stress which are also good in preventing acne. There are some things that can lead to workout breakouts, so following these exercise tips will keep you healthy without causing acne flareups:

Wear Proper Clothing: Remember that your clothing needs to breath and keep moisture away from your body. Some materials like lycra and nylon are not suited for exercise because the trap heat and moisture against the body creating a breeding ground for bacteria that can cause acne. Wear lightweight, loose fitting cotton, or cotton blends for moderate exercise. For heavy exercise or if you sweat a lot look for materials that are designed to wick moisture away from your skin.

Don't Wear Make-up: Exercising is not the time to wear make-up. Even oil-free or non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) products can clog pores during heavy exercise. If you do wear make-up during your exercise routine, wash it off as soon as you are done.

Shower and Change after Working Out: As you sweat during your exercise routine, your skin and clothes become wet fertile grounds for bacteria. If you do not get this bacteria away from your skin, it can cause acne breakouts. So immediately after you exercise you should take a shower and put on clean dry clothes.

Use Equipment that Fits: Loose sports equipment can slide around and cause friction areas that can then develop acne. Make sure that all equipment you use and were is the right size and fit.

Don't think that you can use acne as an excuse to not exercise. Exersice is an important part to keeping health, so just take some precautions and you will avoid work-out related outbreaks.
